Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-05-09
1. What LightChallenge is
LightChallenge ("LightChallenge", "we", "us") is a non-custodial, stake-weighted competition protocol deployed on the LightChain blockchain (mainnet chain ID 9200). When you join a challenge, you stake LCAI into a smart-contract escrow. The escrow disburses to participants based on rules and on verdicts produced by an off-chain verification system that uses LightChain's AIVM worker network.
We do not custody your funds. The contracts that hold your stake are deployed on a public blockchain, are immutable, and their addresses are published at /deployments/lightchain.json. Your wallet is your account.
2. Eligibility
- You are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater).
- You are not located in, or a national of, a country subject to comprehensive United States or European Union sanctions.
- You have the legal authority to accept these Terms on behalf of yourself or any entity you represent.
- You are responsible for determining whether participation in stake-weighted competitions is lawful in your jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions classify staked competitions as gambling, gaming, or regulated contests. We do not provide legal advice. If you are uncertain, do not participate.
3. Your account & wallet
Your account is your blockchain wallet. We do not have access to your private keys, cannot recover them, and cannot reverse transactions signed by them. Loss of your private key is loss of access to any LCAI held in our smart contracts on your behalf or claimable by you.
If you connect third-party services (Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, Steam, Riot, Discord, etc.) to provide evidence for your challenge participation, you authorise us to access the relevant scopes. You may revoke this authorisation at any time from your settings page or directly with the third-party provider.
4. Challenges, stakes, fees, and payouts
- The economic terms of a challenge — minimum stake, fee split, payout curve, maximum participants, deadline — are recorded on-chain at challenge creation and are immutable for that challenge.
- Protocol fees are taken from the prize pool at finalisation. The fee rate visible at the time you join is the fee rate that will be applied.
- Winning and losing are determined by the rules of the challenge plus the verdict produced by the verification system. Verdicts are recorded on-chain via the
LightchallengeAttestorcontract. - Payouts are pull-based: once a verdict is finalised, you must call
claim()(the webapp will prompt you) to receive funds. Unclaimed funds remain in your name in the Treasury contract; we cannot send them to you proactively. - If a challenge is cancelled before any winners are recorded, all stakes are refundable via the same pull-based mechanism.
5. Verdicts & disputes
Verdicts are produced by an automated pipeline that ingests evidence from your connected third-party services, applies challenge-specific rules, and submits a signed attestation on-chain. Verdicts are not infallible. We document our verification approach at our anti-cheat policy.
If you believe a verdict is incorrect, you may file an appeal from the verdict screen within 7 days of finalisation. Appeals are reviewed by a human operator. We aim to acknowledge appeals within 48 hours and resolve them within 14 days.
If a verification provider (e.g. Strava) is unavailable or returns invalid data during your challenge window, we may pause finalisation, extend the window, or — at our reasonable discretion — refund stakes. Whatever we do will be applied uniformly to all participants in that challenge.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit fraudulent, manipulated, or replayed evidence (e.g. spoofed GPS, treadmill loops, altered game telemetry).
- Use multiple accounts to participate in the same challenge.
- Attempt to interfere with the verification system, the verifier worker network, or our infrastructure.
- Create challenges with content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, or that promotes self-harm.
- Use the protocol in a way that violates applicable law, sanctions, or the terms of any third-party service you connect.
We may, at our discretion, refuse to display challenges that violate these rules in our hosted webapp and mobile app, hide them from search, and (for cases involving fraud or law enforcement requests) blacklist your wallet from interactions with our hosted UI. We cannot remove content from the underlying blockchain or prevent you from interacting with the contracts directly.
7. Risk acknowledgement
You understand and accept that:
- Smart contracts may contain bugs. The contracts are immutable; if a bug is found, funds may be at risk and we may not be able to recover them.
- LCAI and any token traded against it are volatile. Stakes may lose value during the challenge.
- Blockchain transactions are irreversible.
- You may lose your entire stake.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and"as available". We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty regarding accuracy of verdicts or availability of the platform.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LightChallenge, its contributors, and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your access to or use of the service, the contracts, or any verdict produced.
In no event shall our aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service exceed the greater of (i) the amount of fees we collected from you in the 90 days preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (ii) USD 100 equivalent.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LightChallenge, its contributors, and its affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to our hosted webapp and mobile app at any time, with or without cause. Termination of access does not affect your ability to interact with the on-chain contracts directly, nor does it affect any unclaimed funds owed to you by the Treasury contract.
12. Governing law & dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction TBD pending legal review], without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by [arbitration body TBD], except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property or confidential information.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the website and (where we have your email) by email. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
